99-year Granite Links lease extension to be discussed at Monday's council meetingQUINCY − The city council's ordinance committee will meet Monday to discuss a proposed 99-year extension to the lease of Granite Links Golf Club, an idea that has drawn criticism from residents and citizen's groups as they push for more public access and restrictions on the land. The $160 million Granite Links project began in 2002 with nine holes first opening for play in 2003, followed by another set of nine holes in 2004. Despite there being 22 years left on the remaining lease for the property, representatives from Granite Links have told the city they're struggling to secure loans for improvement projects with a long-term commitment. Tom O'Connell, president of Granite Links, said they will "re-master plan the entire site" if the lease extension is approved. The Granite Links discussion will start at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the city council chambers.
