Amazon discloses fresh wave of Bay Area job cuts, tech layoffs worsen

SUNNYVALE — Amazon has disclosed plans to chop hundreds more Bay Area jobs in what would be a fresh wave of cutbacks, a forbidding sign that tech layoffs might have yet to run their course in this region. All told, Amazon has decided to chop 261 jobs in the Bay Area, the WARN letters, dated Jan. 18, show. Those prior job cuts were slated to be effective starting on Jan. 17 of this year. Bay Area pumpkin patch open for business

Joan Madsen was integral to hers, having hosted thousands of children every year at her namesake pumpkin patch outside of Livermore. Many were devastated when the 82-year-old died earlier this year, especially her daughter Annie and son Dave, who have been tasked with carrying on their mother’s work at Joan’s Farm and Pumpkin Patch. Many feared the pumpkin patch wouldn’t open this fall, but on Oct. 1, Annie and Dave opened the doors for the 32nd time. There’s usually about 200 little pumpkins in a bin or 12 big ones. “And it all started as just a little pumpkin patch under an oak tree.”Livermore resident Merry Carter couldn’t count the number of pumpkins her family has bought at the patch.

Blacy’s jewelers celebrates 20th anniversary in Old Town

Los Gatos resident Jeanette Blacy, a third-generation jeweler and certified gemologist, is celebrating 20 years of doing business in Old Town. My parents moved to Los Gatos in 1960, and my mom managed a jewelry store in Cupertino. I’ve been in the biz ever since; I suppose you could say it’s in my DNA.”Growing up in Los Gatos, Blacy and her twin sister Janet had relatives in Placerville who they loved to visit. We would make jewelry and sell it to the hippie jeweler in Old Town. We would sell the pieces for $5 or $10 and then go to the Wine Cellar to drink coke and eat French bread.

Jets RB Breece Hall and OL Alijah Vera-Tucker both out for the season

Jets coach Robert Saleh announced Monday that running back Breece Hall would miss the rest of the 2022 season due to an ACL tear and a minor meniscus tear. He also announced offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker would miss the rest of the year after tearing his biceps as he will undergo surgery to repair the injury. Miami Heat’s ‘small ball’ approach leading to big problems

Starting small is tough enough for the Miami Heat, with 6-foot-5 Caleb Martin opening at power forward. That’s the biggest thing,” said center Bam Adebayo, who led the Heat with eight rebounds. Further compounding the issue was the need to go small with the Heat attempting to buy time in zone defense while utilizing several minus defenders. “I’ve probably done it occasionally, short bursts,” Spoelstra said of taking small to such extremes.
