Arab world is against normalization, survey shows

The vast majority of Arabs oppose normalization of relations with Israel, recently released poll results from the 2022 Arab Opinion Index show. This trend is supported by other surveys such as the Arab Barometer poll, which showed 13% support for normalization. The Arab Opinion Index is conducted by the Arab Center Washington DC and the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies in Doha, Qatar, and is the largest public opinion survey in the Arab world. The other Arab signatories to the Abraham Accords, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, were absent from the survey. Nevertheless, experts believe that the overwhelming opposition to normalization with Israel in the Arab world will not hinder efforts towards normalization.

I read a police report Saturday evening that placed the number of protesters at that night’s Tel Aviv demonstration at 100,000. They did not only threaten civil rights but the physical lives and safety of hundreds of thousands if not millions of Israelis. Yet for some reason, the Supreme Court, sans Justice Edmond Levy, decided that it was not its place to interfere. The Supreme Court proved otherwise when it abandoned the people of Gush Katif. They proved that their own politics supersede their supposed commitment to upholding the civil rights of all Israelis, making this argument against the reform null and void.

The UN gives a master class in anti-Semitism

Not one Western democracy voted to initiate the “inquiry,” but the U.N.’s top human rights body has rather unusual characteristics. Only 30 percent of Human Rights Council members are free democracies; Islamic states hold the balance of power through a system of regional groups, and its members include such human rights luminaries as China, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Venezuela. The report’s declarations of Israeli human rights violations run wild. Not as a human rights violation. Netanyahu has his sights set on the Saudis as the next peace partner – but is it feasible?

Israeli Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu said last week that he hopes to bring about “a full, formal peace” with Saudi Arabia, as Israel has done with other Gulf states. Whether or not Saudi Arabia joins the Abraham Accords largely depends on the United States, he added. Morocco, for example, wanted the United States to recognize its sovereignty in Western Sahara. From Yemen, the Houthis, an Iranian proxy, attack Saudi Arabia. More open relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia are definitely possible, according to Shaked.

The new ‘Good Germans’

But given that the attack occurred on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, it does seem appropriate to upgrade “status leftists” to a new and historic title: The New Good Germans. “Good Germans,” of course, is the ironic term given to German citizens who, after World War II, claimed they had not supported the Nazi regime, but remained silent and made no attempt to defy the regime while it was in power. The original Good Germans knew that if they said or did anything they could be immediately executed. But today’s Good Germans aren’t so different from the old ones. Like the original Good Germans, their consciences were turned off a long time ago.

The uniqueness of this Iranian uprising

Survey editors concluded that the Iran protests developed then without any organized leadership, but rather because of the overwhelming feelings of the majority regarding the many injustices in society. This is the protest of the young generation, Generation Z. In contrast with previous protests, some former or current senior officials in the Iranian regime, including former president Hassan Rouhani, have refrained from standing by the leader and do not express support for the regime. Moreover, these protests, which put challenging the government at the top of their goals, weaken to some extent the uncompromising bargaining position of the Iranian regime. Today, the Iranian regime is struggling over the issue of the hijab, which is a fundamental value of the Islamic government, thus binding it to an insoluble internal challenge.

Why Israel must not provide the Iron Dome to Ukraine

Ukraine has not relented in its efforts to have Israel provide it with the Iron Dome missile defense system and other types of air defense technology, as well as a whole host of cutting-edge weapon systems. But Jerusalem must not send Iron Dome or other weapon systems to Ukraine, and should not be expected to do so. Having Israel send systems to Ukraine could create a potential threat, from Russia, Syria or Iran, to Israel’s freedom of maneuver. However, while Israel should avoid sending Iron Dome and other weapon systems to Ukraine, it could definitely provide Kyiv with good intelligence on Iran’s actions, its drones and its ballistic missiles (should they be provided to Russia). They can demand that the United States send Ukraine advanced air defense systems such as the Patriot or the Predator drones.

Who will celebrate World Hijab Day this year?

In 2013, an activist holiday called World Hijab Day was foisted upon us. As I pointed out in 2020, World Hijab Day founder Nazma Khan chose Feb. 1 for her event, and this was not a coincidence. With such heightened public awareness of all things hijab in 2022, who will have the audacity to celebrate World Hijab Day 2023? Kathy Hochul will also celebrate World Hijab Day 2023. The progressives who celebrate World Hijab Day also call themselves feminists, but they are really cultural relativists.
