The 34-year-old from Vancouver reached another longevity benchmark Thursday when the Flames were at home to the Buffalo Sabres. Out of almost 7,500 players in the NHL's 105 years, only 211 have played 1,100 games. "Feels like it wasn't too long ago, where we were celebrating 1000," Lucic said before Thursday's game. Among active NHL players, Dallas Stars defenceman Ryan Suter is the leader in games played with his 1,284th in Toronto on Thursday, followed by Washington's Alex Ovechkin suiting up for his 1,279th in Ottawa.

Vancouver firefighters continue to respond to a record number of fires and overdoses across the city. Vancouver Fire Chief Karen Fry says she will request city council provide $6.9 million in next year’s budget to hire 55 firefighters in a city that continues to see a record number of fires and overdoses. Last year, city council unlocked $3.1 million for the fire department to hire 25 new firefighters, who were expected to be stationed in the under-served southeast quadrant of the city. Council is expected Dec. 6 to approve the capital budget, utility rate hikes and fee increases for 2023. Kirby-Yung wouldn’t speculate on where council would find $6.9 million in next year’s budget, if she and her ABC Vancouver team agree to unlock funds for all 55 firefighters in 2023.
