While certain “traditions” are associated with youth ministry at St. Stephen’s, the Curate will be expected to develop and innovate a new model for youth ministry that fits this parish. Design and execute weekly formation opportunities for youth. Encourage attendance at diocesan youth events. The Curate will also have other duties that align with youth ministry: Serve as staff support for the acolyte ministry. Stay up to date on Safeguarding God’s Children/Safeguarding God’s People training and ensure compliance with those guidelines at children and youth events.

Church of England bishops propose offering blessings to same-sex couples, but not marriage

Over the last year, several bishops have publicly called for the church to fully embrace same-sex marriage, notably including the Rt. A 2022 survey of 1,165 English Anglicans conducted by YouGov for the Ozanne Foundation found that 55% approved of same-sex marriage. Marriage ceremonies are performed in The Episcopal Church, the Scottish Episcopal Church and the Anglican Episcopal Church of Brazil. Blessings are offered in the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia and the Church in Wales. The status of blessings and marriage is disputed in the Anglican Church of Canada and the Anglican Church of Australia.

Judge blocks transfer of Mexico’s National Guard to army

District court judge Karla María Macías Lovera blocked a controversial bill approved in the Senate in September that aimed to transfer the National Guard to the Secretariat of National Defense, bringing it under military command. Created in 2019 as a civil security force, the National Guard has become a hot-button issue in the increasingly polarized political climate in Mexico. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was both praised and criticized for his decision to move it to the armed forces in August. Lawyers for Uniendo Caminos told Courthouse News they believe the suspension to be the end of the president’s initiative to move the National Guard to the armed forces. “We’ve seen a very good reception of these legal actions among a large portion of society.”Ochoa has even received messages of support from members of the armed forces and National Guard.

Poll: Nearly half of Americans think the US should be a Christian nation

“There are a lot of Americans — 45% — who tell us they think the United States should be a Christian nation. They don’t mean they want to see the US officially declared to be a Christian nation. In Pew’s survey, white evangelicals were the faith group most likely to say America should be a Christian nation (81%). White non-evangelical Protestants were more split, with 54% agreeing the U.S. should be a Christian nation. Those who think the U.S. should not be a Christian nation were more likely to describe a Christian nation as having Christian-based laws and governance (30%) than did those who believe it should be (6%).

Theranos ex-president sentenced to nearly 13 years for Silicon Valley fraud

Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani got a longer sentence than Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, who was sentenced to just over 11 years. SAN JOSE, Calif. (CN) — Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, the disgraced former president of the failed $9 billion blood-testing startup Theranos, will spend nearly 13 years in federal prison for wire fraud. U.S. District Judge Edward Davila sentenced Balwani on Wednesday to 12 years and 11 months for his role in risking patient health by misrepresenting Theranos technology accuracy and defrauding investors. This past July, a Silicon Valley jury found Balwani guilty on 12 counts of fraud. Davila also sentenced Balwani to three years of supervision following release from prison, with a hearing to determine the restitution Balwani must pay to be scheduled.

KANSAS: Keystone Pipeline Spill Cleanup Plan Agreed

Although the leak is the largest in the United States since the 2013 North Dakota spill on a different pipeline and the largest-ever in the history of the Keystone Pipeline, to date, the cause of this breach is unknown. TC temporarily shut down the 36-inch Keystone Pipeline to handle cleanup; service was restarted in late December. TC Oil Pipeline Operations Inc. operates sections of the Keystone Pipeline System, a 2,687-mile liquid oil pipeline system between Hardisty, Alberta, Canada, and Port Arthur, Texas that carries heavy crude oil from the Alberta tar sands to refineries in Port Arthur, Texas. On December 7, 2022, the Keystone Pipeline ruptured about 20 miles (32 km) south of a key Steele City, Nebraska junction. The Keystone oil pipeline is owned by TC Energy and .

Labour minister denies formal freeze on PR grants

Chris Saunders told CNS there is no formal freeze on PR but increased scrutiny of all applications may be causing delays. Saunders said that residency applications in other countries can take years as a result of security concerns, and the authorities here have an obligation to ensure that permanent residency applications are genuine. The minister has previously said there are a number of challenges with the current process and that the entire immigration regime is an emotive issue. However, he confirmed that there is no formal freeze in place. The reality is, a trained administrator could fully assess a properly formulated PR application within an hour,” Joseph said in the email circular.
