Responding to a question by Datuk Dr Yusof Yaacob (BN-Sindumin) on SFI’s status, Abidin said the Sabah government had previously terminated its logging contract on grounds of public interest. ALSO READ: Kitingan: Sabah Foundation appointed as local partner to implement carbon trade dealOn the carbon credit issue raised by Chong Chen Bin (Warisan-Tanjong Kapor), Abidin said there has been no carbon trading in Sabah as yet. Any project pertaining to carbon trading planned for Sabah will have to go through the Sabah Climate Change Action Council chaired by State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong, Abidin added. He said the government will fully implement this data collection within the next six months, starting with the plantation sector. “The state government will collect biometric data including facial recognition,” Abidin said, adding that the data collection exercise will not grant citizenship status to the foreigners.

Steve Bannon gets four months in jail for contempt

Former Trump strategist Steve Bannon railed against the "Biden regime" after being sentenced to four months in jail for contempt of Congress. Even after his departure, the combative and controversial podcaster was considered a top ally of Mr Trump. Prosecutor JP Cooney said on Friday that Mr Bannon "hid behind a fabricated claim of executive privilege to thumb his nose at Congress". Defence attorney David Schoen - who represented Mr Trump in his second impeachment trial at the US Senate - said that Bannon was acting "on principle". "Quite frankly, Mr Bannon should make no apology," Mr Schoen said.

Healthy demand seen

Research houses have advocated a cautious stance on the stock, believing that the present less-than-favourable operating environment to weigh on Nestle’s margins in the near-term. On a positive note, despite the current inflationary pressures, analyst Walter Aw said the demand for Nestle’s products would remain healthy, as the company produces daily F&B necessities, and that it would expand its product offerings by launching more innovations. “We reiterate our ‘hold’ call on the stock, as Nestle has strong fundamentals and an inelastic demand, with a target price (TP) of RM135,” said CGS-CIMB Research. It added dairy prices are expected to sustain its uptrend into 2023 as supply is only expected to catch up with demand by the end of 2023. It has a TP of RM115.65 for Nestle.

Ford, VW shut self-driving Argo AI JV

MICHIGAN: Argo AI, the autonomous vehicle technology company backed by Ford Motor Co and Volkswagen AG (VW), is shutting down as the giant automakers shift their strategies for self-driving cars. Ford will record a US$2.7bil (RM12.7bil) non-cash, pre-tax impairment on the Argo AI investment. Argo AI was to unable find other investors, Ford said. VW intends to focus on other efforts and partnerships to develop automated and self-driving technology. The company declined to comment on how much funding it had so far invested in Argo AI.

HANOI (Vietnam News/Asia News Network): The fastest growing market for centi-millionaires, who boast US$100 million or more in investable assets, over the next decade, is forecast to be Vietnam, according to The Centi-Millionaire Report. India is next in line with an anticipated 80 per cent growth rate in individuals worth more than $100 million by 2032. New Zealand and Australia are also forecast to enjoy exceptional growth with 72 per cent and 60 per cent, respectively. Punching above its weight, Switzerland ranks sixth on the list with 808 inhabitants worth more than $100 million despite its small size and population. As Dr Juerg Steffen, CEO of Henley & Partners, points out, the $100 million plus band represents the best definition in today’s world of what it means to be ‘super-wealthy’.
