Harry Styles dominated Saturday night’s Brit Awards, winning all four awards he received nominations for. Getty ImagesStyles, 29, used his acceptance speeches to acknowledge his “privilege” and namechecked female artists who were controversially absent from the best artist category. The awards, in the second year of gender-neutral categories, faced backlash after failing to nominate a single female act for best artist. This year, four genre categories were decided by the public via a vote on TikTok – alternative rock act, hip hop/rap/grime act, dance act and pop/R&B act. Styles claimed best pop/R&B act while alternative rock act went to The 1975 and Manchester rapper Aitch claimed the prize for hip hop/rap/grime act.

Postecoglou frustrated by delays as VAR dominates Tynecastle clash

Mexico beat Saudi Arabia but miss out on last-16 qualification

Mexico missed out on reaching the last 16 of the World Cup despite beating Saudi Arabia 2-1. There was huge support for Saudi Arabia inside the Lusail Stadium, venue for the World Cup final on December 18. Mohamed Kanno had two attempts for Saudi Arabia, slashing wide and sending a free-kick just over, but it was Mexico who poured forward at every opportunity. The busy Al Owais pushed out a Chavez shot at the start of the second half, but Mexico broke the deadlock from the resulting corner. It looked as if Mexico had to score, but in the end it was Saudi Arabia who had the final word.

'We want to bring women denied education in Afghanistan to Scotland'

A Western-Isles based charity hopes to bring women denied an education in Afghanistan to Scotland. A ban on women attending university was put in place by the ruling Taliban militant group in December. She died in Afghanistan in 2010 during a rescue operation, after being kidnapped by the Taliban. I can never be anyone in Afghanistan with the Taliban.”Lorna said the ban had already had a massive impact on women they know. “Women are banned from university, they’re banned from going out, they’re banned from mixing with men outside their own family,” she said.

Investigation launched after three people and dog killed in hotel fire

An investigation has been launched after three people and a dog were killed in an early-morning hotel fire in Perth. More than 60 firefighters were called to tackle the blaze at the New County Hotel in Perth, just after 5am on Monday. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) described the fire as a “very complex incident” as guests and those staying in neighbouring flats were all evacuated. Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have now launched a joint investigation into the incident. A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service of a fire at the New County Hotel in Perth at 05:05hrs.

Celtic beat Hearts 4-3 amid VAR controversy in Tynecastle goal-fest

A Lawrence Shankland hat-trick wasn’t enough to get the home side anything from the game as the Hoops won 4-3 at Tynecastle. James Forrest continued his good run of form with a goal for Celtic before Shankland levelled from the spot amid a first half full of VAR drama. SNS Group VAR: Referee consulted monitor before awarding penalty to Hearts. The floodgates opened after the break with five goals, and one chopped off, and two penalties in a frantic second half.
