When talking about DeMeco Ryans on Thursday, Texans general manager Nick Caserio sounded as excited as he’s ever been. The Texans interviewed eight candidates, including most of the hot names on the coaching market, including Sean Payton, Jonathan Gannon, Mike Kafka and others. Ryans, 38, was a rising star, and the Texans wanted him. The Texans head coaching position was indeed a “dream job,” he said, but he never expected to be here until it became available. Before the Texans interviewed him, there was speculation that the lawsuit might play a factor in whether he wanted to be their head coach.

Oak Ridge defense a big factor in run towards playoff goal

Back on Oct. 14 at Cleveland, Oak Ridge shut out an opponent for the first time in 13 years during a 54-0 decision. This past Thursday, some might argue it was the defense that kept Oak Ridge steady until the offense could break out. After a rare scoreless tie at halftime, Oak Ridge (5-3, 4-2) came out on top with a huge 35-7 win over College Park. A good defense can take the pressure off the defense, and that has been happening lately at Oak Ridge. The War Eagles suffered a handful of hard-luck losses by four-or-less points in 2021, and there were injury issues, too.

A bat flip and a shrug. No stage too big for Jeremy Peña, the ALCS MVP.

A hostile ballpark filled with New Yorkers hoping their team could stave off elimination rooted against Peña. Peña mashed a game-tying, three-run homer 408 feet to left field and punctuated it with a bat flip. In a series where the Astros stifled the Yankees’ Aaron Judge, Peña has been their executioner. He hit 6-for-17 with four RBIs, two home runs, three runs and two doubles. Running to his left from behind second base, Peña scooped the ball off the grass and in one fluid motion unleashed a spinning throw to first base for the out.

5 things we learned from Texans’ loss to Raiders

The Raiders outscored the Texans in the fourth quarter 21-0. All four of the Texans’ defensive linemen were blocked or overran the play. Both wide receiver Nico Collins and defensive tackle Maliek Collins suffered injuries against the Raiders, that neither returned from. That lone sack came in the first half against the Raiders, when Rasheem Green sacked Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. Texans defensive end Jerry Hughes, who leads the team with four sacks, hasn’t had one since he had two against the Bears in Week 3.

Jalen Green happy to celebrate his Filipino heritage

The Rockets hosted a second Filipino Heritage Night on Monday, with guard Jalen Green again gladly the host and center of attention. It was fire.”Green and Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson last season because the first players with Filipino roots to compete against one another in an NBA game, making their rematches on Monday a natural for the Rockets’ Filipino heritage night. Green and Clarkson matched up on several occasions last season when Clarkson was coming off the Jazz bench. Still, those watching to see the Filipino players were certain to see them match up on Monday and again on Wednesday. The memorabilia Green signed was to be auctioned to benefit the Clutch City Foundation and to support local Filipino Youth Initiatives.

Democrat Rochelle Garza plans to protect workers, LGBT Texans if she’s elected AG

Kimberly Hubbard, a Paxton spokeswoman, said he is already successful at litigating civil rights cases with the office’s current setup. Garza’s proposed Texas division would include several subdivisions, including LGBT rights, disability rights, voting rights and reproductive rights. “Roe was just the first — they won’t stop till they roll back all of our civil rights,” Garza tweeted in response to Paxton’s comment. “When I'm Attorney General, Texans will have a Civil Rights Division to protect ALL of our rights. “It’s important because there are systemic violations, unfortunately, of people’s civil rights and constitutional rights,” Meek said.

High oil prices continue to benefit oil field services sector despite fears of an economic slowdown

Then, early this month, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies said they will cut production, which could keep oil prices elevated. Overall, the oil field services industry is reporting some solid financial results thanks to high oil prices, according to Vikas Mittal, marketing professor at Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business. But if companies want to remain successful when oil prices drop, he said, they’re focusing on the wrong things. He said clients for oil field services want reliability in their core product: providing and servicing complex drilling equipment. In 2019, Weatherford filed for bankruptcy after low oil prices translated into nearly five years of losses.
