But growing up in Singapore, Lyngdoh-Sommer witnessed how the country uses AI technology to police and surveil its citizens. The AI systems used display embedded patterns of bias, discrimination, racism, ableism and sexism. “My classes focus on writing and analyzing algorithms, and I want to use my computer science degree to help solve the social issues we’re facing. Update on 2023 Health Plan Contributions

Ahead of that, I am writing today to provide an update on how the University plans to address rising health care costs, and what you can expect with regard to employee contribution rates (the amount deducted from your paycheck for health coverage) for 2023. That is why the University is taking action to limit the impact of health care cost increases on our community members. Employee contributions toward health care benefits under Schedule A will increase by 4.9% for employee-only coverage and increase by 7.7% for family coverage. Schedule B: Eligibility Expansion: The University will significantly expand employee eligibility for Schedule B which has lower employee contribution rates. The increase for Schedule B rates will be 3.9% for all plan selections.

New Tuition Grant Program Unveiled for First Responders

On behalf of the College of Professional Studies, Green will be offering Syracuse police and firefighters an opportunity to advance their education and careers under a new grant program at the college. The new tuition grant program is another component of the Go Local Learn Local initiative, which recently expanded opportunities for health care workers in the region. Similar to the health care worker grant, first responders will be able to earn degrees through online part-time studies at a fraction of the normal cost. School of Architecture Student Organization Awarded Honorable Mention in National Design Competition

Campus & CommunityThe Syracuse Orange chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students (NOMAS) was selected as an honorable mention by the jurors in this year’s student design competition held in conjunction with the 51st annual National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) conference in Nashville, Tennessee, from Oct. 26-30. The Barbara G. Laurie Student Design Competition is one of the highlights of the NOMA conference for both student and professional members. This year’s event challenged student chapter teams to focus on a project that serves to address the gentrification and displacement of North Nashville community members as the result of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Interstate Highway System, built in the 1960s. Once a thriving community populated with businesses, music clubs and historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), the construction of Interstate 40 demolished homes and separated the North Nashville neighborhood. The next NOMA conference is scheduled for October 2023 in Portland.

They are often tracked into less prestigious higher education institutions and face reduced, lower-quality labour market opportunities as a result. Measuring equityEfforts to measure equity in higher education assume that the proportion of target equity groups should be equal to their share in the general population. Today, equity in access and success at the higher education level cannot be regarded any more as a luxury or an afterthought. Upon concluding my PhD, I embarked on some research projects in the financial sector as a climate researcher and climate risk analyst. Climate finance is one of the principal means of supporting developing countries in dealing with climate change and has been renewed as one of the highest priorities in international climate negotiations. The capacity-building aspect of climate change should be addressed when climate science activists, researchers and politicians gather for the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP27, in Egypt from 6-18 November.Developed countries have pledged to assist African countries to transition towards a net-zero society. It is hoped that the upcoming Conference of the Parties, or COP27, will deal with the question of regulation.South Africa, for instance, has its own tailored Carbon Tax Act and Climate Change Bill Definitely to understand the capacity-building aspect of climate change.

EU to step up support for ASEAN higher education, research

The new funding for ASEAN “boosts sustainable investments in digital, transport, energy and climate relevant sectors and in health, education and research systems. Some 590 scholarships and exchanges between the EU and ASEAN, and within ASEAN, were funded over the project’s seven-year duration as part of the Erasmus+ initiative.
