The second Carabao Cup semi-final starts tonight with the City Ground hosting two clubs, in Forest and United, with plenty of prestige in this competition. The hosts have lifted the trophy four times and are on their first trip to the final four since the heady days of Brian Clough. As for Man United, their 2017 triumph was their fifth Carabao Cup victory and their most recent domestic trophy lift - creating a relatively long, dark spell for the club that Erik ten Hag is desperate to end. Boris Johnson arrives back in the UK ahead of expected Tory leadership entry

B oris Johnson has arrived back in the UK ahead of his expected entry into the Tory leadership race. Mr Johnson arrived at Gatwick Airport on Saturday morning with his family after breaking off a holiday in the Dominican Republic following Liz Truss’s forced resignation on Thursday. Mr Johnson does, however, have the support of six Cabinet ministers, including Ben Wallace, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Simon Clarke, Chris Heaton-Harris, Alok Sharma and Anne-Marie Trevelyan. Some MPs, however, have warned they would resign the Tory whip and sit in the Commons as independents if Mr Johnson returns to Downing Street. "I think Boris is someone with a proven track record who delivered Brexit, he delivered the fastest vaccine rollout in Europe.

Around quarter of Sun to be blocked out during partial solar eclipse

A bout 25% of the Sun will be blocked out on Tuesday as the Moon passes between it and the Earth. In London, the eclipse will begin at 10:08am on October 25, with the maximum eclipse occurring at 10.59am, when the Moon will cover close to 15% of the Sun. Dr Massey said looking directly at the Sun can cause serious damage to the eyes, even when a large fraction of the solar disc is blocked out. He added: “The simplest way to watch an eclipse is to use a pinhole in a piece of card. “Under no circumstances should you look through the pinhole.”Dr Massey said another popular method used to view an eclipse is the mirror projection method.

Arsenal and West Ham fans fume at fixture decision made ‘without an ounce of consideration’

Tim Payton of the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust said: "Arsenal fans now face late kickoffs on both Boxing Day and New Years Eve. West Ham United Supporters’ Trust tweeted: "14 days late - total disregard says it all. “This is a Scrooge decision that will ruin the Boxing Day plans of many fans,” added a further statement. “The decision to move the Arsenal v. West Ham fixture to Boxing Day evening was clearly done without an ounce of consideration for supporters. Premier League officials have been unable to provide a concrete date or time for the TV fixtures announcement, despite requests from the FSA and various club-specific fan groups."

Penny Mordaunt came out of the reshuffle as Commons Leader, failing to win a promotion after she challenged Mr Sunak for the leadership. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Joe Biden were among the first world leaders Mr Sunak spoke to on Tuesday evening.

G ranit Xhaka says Arsenal are targeting being top of the Premier League when the World Cup starts — and he believes the mid-season break could benefit the Gunners. Manchester City are four points behind Arsenal, who head to Southampton on Sunday, and with just four matches to go until the World Cup, Xhaka insists the Gunners are aiming to still be top when the mid-season break starts. I think if we have the chance to stay there and the World Cup comes, maybe it is a good break for everyone, maybe for us as well, to prepare something else for January. Van Nistelrooy backs Arsenal for title challenge after 1-0 defeatArsenal have a packed schedule before the World Cup, playing twice a week, but Xhaka is not worried about burning out. Of course, every time you win it makes it a little bit easier, but yeah I am not worried about the minutes, or the World Cup, or the future.
