Tottenham Hotspur failed to bounce back from their 4-1 defeat to Leicester City this evening as they fell 1-0 at the San Siro against AC Milan. Emerson Royal – 6 – Seems to have improved his passing game a lot down that right channel, but still didn’t get enough crosses into the box. Cristian Romero – 4 – Got beaten a fair few times down the right side and was outjumped in the build-up to the goal. Just doesn’t command or organise that back three well enough when the ball is delivered into the box and it causes Spurs problems. Had a great chance to pull the ball back in the box for Son to tap home but failed to get his head up.
Gabriele Marcotti has said that Richarlison has to first establish himself as a regular in Tottenham’s starting eleven before the likes of Real Madrid come calling for him. In light of his brilliant displays in Qatar, Richarlison has been mooted as a target for the likes of Real Madrid (Todofichajes) and Paris Saint-Germain (Fichajes) over recent weeks. But even Tottenham fans will recognise that even Real Madrid are in a different stratosphere, possibly to every other club in the world. “I think the days players were judged on what they could do at World Cups, those are long gone. However, I disagree with Marcotti’s take about the 25-year-old needing to shine at Tottenham for the likes of Real Madrid to come calling.3 months ago Spurs Web
Tottenham Hotspur let a two goal lead slip this evening against Premier League holders Man City, eventually losing the game at the Etihad 4-2. Ivan Perisic – 4 – Mahrez skipped by him for fun at times, especially for Alvarez’s goal. In the second half, Spurs dropped so deep and all that good stuff went away. His pressing and positive passing was at the heart of every good Spurs move, especially Kulusevski’s opener. Clement Lenglet – 3 – Barely had more than a cameo and still gifted Man City a goal with a horrid first touch as the last man.2 months ago Spurs Web
Glenn Hoddle does not expect Tottenham to get into the latter stages of the Champions League since Antonio Conte’s men are not able to cope with teams who defend deep and look to counter-attack. Tottenham showed fantastic defensive organisation and displayed their counter-attacking capabilities to turn over Manchester City a little over a week ago. Hoddle has said that teams in the latter stages of the Champions League will not allow Tottenham to play to their strengths and asserted that Conte’s tactics will come unstuck in the competition. “In knockout football, the groups are gone, this is the real Champions League football. “Every time they broke, they looked dangerous – and they did it to City for 45 minutes up there as well.1 month ago Spurs Web
Antonio Conte has suggested following Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to AC Milan on Tuesday that Yves Bissouma might also be sidelined for the remainder of the season. With Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg suspended for the first leg against AC Milan, Conte had to field an inexperienced pairing of Pape Matar Sarr and Oliver Skipp yesterday. Conte told Football London: “About the two midfielders, I think that I’m really happy about the performance from Skippy and Pape Sarr. This type of performance make me more relaxed for the future because we have to consider that we could finish the season with only three midfielders, Pape Sarr, Skippy and Pierre Hojbjerg. It is worrying that Conte is seemingly not optimistic that the 25-year-old will kick a ball again this season.1 month ago Spurs Web
“You can only improve by playing, playing, playing, facing situations and finding solutions. He added: “Honestly when we had the ball, we had the ball 50-50 during the game, we could exploit much better offensive situations. We lost a lot of stupid balls because the way that we prepared to attack United, in my opinion, was good. “But you know very well in the big games when the level is high, the pressure is high. For this reason, the step that we have to do [is] to try to cope also with this pressure.5 months ago Spurs Web
Antonio Conte has remarked that Tottenham have only just started on their project and have plenty of work to do to compete with the top clubs in the Premier League for league titles. Spurs had made their best start to the season in the Premier League era ahead of their clash against Manchester United, having accumulated 23 points in their first ten games of the season. I know we need a process to go step by step, to become a really, really strong team and to become title contenders. “I like to speak about the process because I know and I feel that this club and this team needed our process. “Then it depends what we want, a long process, a short process, a medium process.5 months ago Spurs Web
Tottenham Hotspur were back in action this evening against Nice for their final friendly before the Premier League season restarts on Boxing Day. Clement Lenglet – 7 – Underlapped very well this evening, getting beyond Matt Doherty and trying to cross the ball in early. Dictated Tottenham’s play this evening which was nice to see. Harvey White – 6.5 – Drifted in and out of the game, but the ball tended to stick when Spurs found him. Dejan Kulusevski – 7.5 – Wasn’t at his best this evening, but still looked class on the ball at times.3 months ago Spurs Web
