Ottawa neighbourhood devastated by massive explosion

With everyone accounted for after a massive explosion at an east Ottawa construction site Monday morning that injured 12 people, officials are now turning to the investigation into how this could have happened. Firefighters rescued two people from the rubble at a new development on Tenth Line Road near Harvest Valley Avenue in Orléans after a gas leak caused the explosion, officials said. One of them was rescued about an hour after the explosion and the other was rescued about three hours later some distance away. The explosion at 6:18 a.m. took out several homes under construction at a Minto development called Avalon Vista. #OttNews pic.twitter.com/ch1hm144nB— Ottawa Fire Services (@OttFire) February 13, 2023 The scene of the blast is about 20 kilometres east of downtown Ottawa.

'They will put these dollars to good use': Lecce trusts parents will spend Ontario 'catch-up' payments on their kids

Lecce said he believes parents will know best how to use the money to enhance their children’s learning. Parents can apply online for the payments, and upon submission Lecce said the money will be directly deposited into their accounts in about two to three weeks. In addition to the catch-up payments, Lecce said the government is also increasing support in the classroom. Despite criticism that the catch-up payments encourage learning outside of school, Lecce said the government is supporting both parents and investing in the education system. Meanwhile, 59 per cent of Grade 3 students met the province’s mathematical standard, while 52 per cent of Grade 9 students did.

After Winkler's mayor of more than a decade announced his retirement, two candidates are vying to fill the role. He told CTV News the decision to run for mayor came down to his two children. If elected mayor, Siemens said he would focus on rebuilding relationships. Both candidates shared their platforms during an All Candidates Forum hosted by the Winkler & District Chamber of Commerce. Bo Burnham show being advertised for Rogers Arena next month appears to be fake

Fans hoping to see comedian Bo Burnham in Vancouver next month are likely to be disappointed. Listings for a show at Rogers Arena on Eventbrite and Songkick appear to be fake. Rogers Arena's events calendar does not advertise any upcoming Bo Burnham shows. There are no events scheduled for Sunday night at the Bell Centre, according to the venue's website. CTV News has reached out to Eventbrite and Canucks Sports and Entertainment – which operates Rogers Arena – to confirm that the advertised event is fake.

Linden Crain, 22, just became the youngest person yet, to win an election in the Town of Amherstburg — and the youngest successful council candidate across Windsor-Essex this election. With just under 3,800 votes cast for him, Crain also received the most votes of anyone on the ballot in Amherstburg, including for councillor, mayor or deputy. “He FaceTimed me with the results on the TV and we were kind of watching it live,” Crain said. I just want to get in there and make a difference regardless of what my age was,” said Crain.
