If there’s an early lesson from this long road trip for the Toronto Raptors, it’s that even when their effort is there, the margin for error is still razor thin. Well, it’s not resulting in wins — not yet at least — as the Raptors went into Phoenix and made just enough mistakes to lose, 114-106. Turnovers were the story early on for the Raptors, as wayward bounce passes resulted in transition opportunities for the Suns. After playing the whole first quarter, Siakam extended his minutes into the second to lead the Raptors bench unit. On the game’s late possessions, the Raptors couldn’t summon the same energy they started the half with.

Raptors fight to the finish and steal a game from the Knicks, winning 123-121

Scottie Barnes continued to have a great game for the Raptors, crashing the Offensive glass and giving the Raptors more opportunity to try and get back on top. VanVleet tied the game with 1.5 minutes to go, and we had a close game on our hands! Scottie Barnes saved the day once again, getting the rebound, the foul, and making BOTH free throws to bring the Raptors up by one. The Raptors GRIND OUT the win in Overtime, 123-121 over the New York Knicks. It was a GREAT game for both Fred VanVleet and Scottie Barnes.

The Raptors can go into the New Year with a win, beating Phoenix 113-104

It was the last Toronto Raptors game on 2022 and a lot was on the line for the team as they welcomed the Phoenix Suns. The Raptors ended the third up 86-77, with Gary Trent Jr. leading all scorers at 29 points. It unfortunately became close near the end at 95-94, which isn’t ideal for a Raptors team that has had trouble closing out and defending down the stretch. The Raptors are able to hold on and get a MUCH needed win, 113-104 against the Phoenix Suns. One of the biggest highlights in this game was Gary Trent Jr. who scored 35 points, two assists and five rebounds.

Nets’ late threes down Raptors in Brooklyn, 109-105

The Brooklyn Nets withstood haymakers from the Toronto Raptors’ veteran core on Friday night, as Royce O’Neale hit an open three with 15.3 seconds left to seal a 109-105 win. Even four days into a new campaign, the win was pivotal for a Nets team that will be under the microscope until further notice. For the Raptors, the game will go down as a missed opportunity to capitalize on a superstar turn from Pascal Siakam. Fred VanVleet was crucial for keeping the Raptors in the game after long Nets runs at the start of the third and fourth quarters. And while not a veteran, Scottie Barnes was the other bright spot for the Raptors on Friday.

In a fun scheduling kink, the Toronto Raptors take on the Miami Heat in consecutive games, both in Miami, within the first week of the season. Likely missing Scottie Barnes and another one or two rotation players, can the Raptors get it done against Jimmy Butler, Erik Spoelstra, and the scrappy Miami Heat? Other than Achiuwa, the Raptors’ bench has scored eight, five, and 14 points in the team’s three games respectively. Masked Malachi minutesSpeaking of bench options, the Raptors’ highest-scoring non-Achiuwa bench player this season has been Malachi Flynn versus the Heat with six points. His threes have been falling (47 percent) and he’s made some nice passes and timely cuts, but on 23 drives this season he’s shooting just two-for-11 with one assist and three turnovers.

Raptors roll to their biggest win of the season, 139-109 over Hawks

Through the first six games of the season, the Raptors offense has relied heavily on Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet. Barnes, not known for his 3-point shooting, headed into tonight shooting 6-12 on the season from deep. Barnes was arguably Toronto’s best player tonight, finishing with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists of 50% shooting. Siakam finished with his second 30 point outing on the young season, and his fourth double-double, ending the game with 31 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. The 3-point shooting continues to be a pleasant surprise, as the Raptors knocked down 14 of their 34 attempts tonight.

Listless Raptors drop embarrassing 132-113 decision to Thunder

Oklahoma City used a 41-point second quarter to put the Raptors into a double-digit hole, one they simply couldn’t climb out of. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 20 for the Thunder, and his Team Canada partner Lu Dort added 13 points and 7 boards. Eight Thunder players scored in double-figures, and the team shot 56% from the floor and 41% from downtown. Raptors knock out Hornets for the second time this week, winning 124-114 at home

This stretch of games is INCREDIBLY important to the Raptors’ season trajectory, as most of the opponents they face this week and next are below .500 teams, and winning could boost them in the standings. Their biggest lead of the first quarter was 13 points, and all starters shared the points pretty evenly. It continued to be a great team effort by the Raptors in the second half. Along with taking the short series against Charlotte 2-0, it’s also the Raptors first three-game winning streak of the season. Pascal Siakam only needed 13 field goal attempts to score his 35 points, the fewest FGA in a 35-point game in Raptors franchise history.

Raptor lose track meet in Golden State 129-117, as Warriors shut door in fourth

The Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors played a fast-paced, high-scoring game on Friday night, one that was a treat for fans of NBA offense. Unfortunately the Raptors ran out of steam down the stretch, and the Warriors used a barrage of threes to slam the door. JaMychal Green soon gave the Warriors a 34-33 lead, but a VanVleet and-1 gave Toronto the 36-34 lead after 1. That eventually led to a Curry three from the corner on a secondary break that gave the Warriors a 76-75 lead. Unfortunately for the Raptors, it was the Warriors who struck first: a Thompson three that gave Golden Stare their largest lead, 101-94.
