TORONTO - A teenage boy was left with serious injuries after a stabbing on a public transit bus in Toronto’s west end, police said Wednesday, marking the fourth case of violence in five days on the city’s transit system. Police said they received reports of a stabbing taking place at Old Mill subway station around 4 p.m. The city’s transit system has seen several cases of violence in recent weeks and Wednesday’s stabbing was the fourth in five days. A woman riding a Toronto streetcar was stabbed in the head and face on Tuesday. In a statement on Twitter, the Toronto Transit Commission said its thoughts are with the victim of Wednesday’s stabbing.

Teen convicted in fatal Dundas shooting of Abdalla Hassan sentenced to time-served

Three youth charged in the 2019 shooting death of Abdalla Hassan walked away free Friday. One of the youth was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to three years — the maximum youth sentence for manslaughter — which he had already served while awaiting trial. The convicted teen sat behind the driver, the fourth boy beside him in the back seat, court heard. The convicted youth, then 15, is one of three teens originally charged with first-degree murder in the death of the 17-year-old on April 15, 2019. “I feel always anxious, depressed,” the family member said Friday.

Consumers should "immediately stop using" the recalled products, Health Canada said, and "dispose of it" in accordance with the instructions for disposal on the packaging. Ontario is back in black as budget deficits eliminated, fiscal watchdog says

Ontario is in back in the black, according to the province’s independent fiscal watchdog. The Financial Accountability Office (FAO) issued a report Thursday that projects Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives will have budget surpluses this fiscal year and through 2027-28. “With a strong economy driving extraordinary revenue growth, the province recorded a $2.1-billion budget surplus in 2021-22,” the FAO said in a new 12-page report. “These surpluses are a substantial improvement compared to the deficits forecast in the 2022 Ontario budget,” it noted. The FAO report comes ahead of Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy’s fall economic statement that will be delivered within the next three weeks.

The White House had not held a state dinner since September 2019, largely because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which put a damper on gatherings of large numbers of people. Thursday’s dinner followed last month’s wedding of Biden’s granddaughter on the South Lawn with 250 guests. And tens of thousands of people will stream through the White House this month, including tourists and others invited to nearly a month’s worth of holiday receptions.
