They're back and they're knocking: Local Jehovah's Witnesses restart door-to-door ministryShow Caption Hide Caption Jehovah's Witnesses resume knocking on doors after 30 months hiatus because of COVID-19 The pandemic caused Jehovah's Witnesses to stop door-to-door ministry. Miller remembers thinking when church leaders put door-to-door ministry on hold as the pandemic was taking hold. "It was big when we suspended our door-to-door ministry," said Robert Hendriks, U.S. spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witnesses. Through the different virus variants, Jehovah's Witnesses held virtual conventions around the world and found other ways to spread the word. Returning to the doorsFor many of the faithful, their time away from door-to-door ministry was a difficult one.
UD football showdown with Richmond has NCAA playoff ramifications After limiting Monmouth's league-leading offense Blue Hens must cope with CAA's top passing attack vs. Richmond, UdiniskiThere have been more than four Colonial Athletic Association football teams selected for the FCS playoffs just once since the bracket was expanded to 24 teams in 2013. If Delaware cannot beat Richmond in this Saturday’s showdown, the Blue Hens will be on the bubble hoping the NCAA digs a little deeper than normal into the CAA for playoff qualifiers. The Blue Hens (7-2 overall, 4-2 CAA) and Spiders (7-2, 5-1) kick off at 1 p.m. at Delaware Stadium in a mammoth showdown between Top 25 teams. Victory would likely sew up a postseason berth for the Blue Hens. The Blue Hens close the regular season Nov. 19 at Villanova, which is 5-4 after a 27-3 loss to Towson Saturday.2 months ago Delaware Online
News Journal multimedia reporter Damian Giletto looks back on the photos of 2022Whether you are a photographer or a multimedia reporter (like me) in the year 2022, you are very spoiled by technology. The USS Delaware will rarely surface. Not only did I get to take pictures of it, but I also had the chance to walk on it. Small Wonder's small wonderYou often get the opportunity to be around special, talented people while working at The News Journal. That's what I said to myself when I realized I would be taking pictures of Ryan Pepe's arm tattoos.28 days ago Delaware Online
Cuban missile crisis, building Rockford Tower: The News Journal archives, week of Oct. 23"Pages of history" features excerpts from The News Journal archives including the Wilmington Morning News, The Morning News, the Every Evening and the Evening Journal. The explosion triggered new demands in Congress for the administration to provide better protection for the U.S. troops or withdraw them…. The explosion collapsed all four floors of the building, turning it into a burial mound of broken cement pillars and cinderblocks. The tower is magnificently situated in one of the prettiest sections of Rockford Park, which is just north of Brandywine Park. There was an almost tangible easing of the tension that gripped the nation during the past week of crisis.3 months ago Delaware Online
Delaware faces stiff test at Elon with QB situation again uncertain Blue Hens will hope for much different outcome this time in trip to Elon, which is smarting from two straight lossesDelaware will go into its critical Colonial Athletic Association game at Elon Saturday with a wounded quarterback. Nolan Henderson left Saturday’s 38-7 win over Morgan State early in the fourth quarter with an apparent injury to his left non-throwing shoulder and was scheduled for an MRI Monday. Delaware (6-1 overall, 3-1 CAA) begins a pivotal four-game stretch to close the regular season at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Elon (5-3, 3-2). Elon may be in a must-win situation after back-to-back losses at Rhode Island and New Hampshire jeopardized its postseason aspirations. A victory against Delaware would thrust the Phoenix back into the FCS playoff picture with winnable conference games left against Albany and Hampton.3 months ago Delaware Online
Delaware home sales dip in September, off nearly 20% from 2021Delaware had bucked the national trend with higher home sales each month from March to June and again in August, but September sales slid – and comparisons to last year are dismal. Home sales in Delaware fell 5.38% in September compared to August and were 19.64% lower than September 2021, but rising interest rates weren't necessarily the culprit. The September sales were based on what interest rates were 45 to 60 days earlier. However, sales every month this year have been lower than the same month in 2021 and those comparisons are getting worse. That was the first decrease since June when the median price was $333,000, a dip from $334,950 in May.3 months ago Delaware Online
Live analysis: Jalen Hurts shows he's back to full strength as Eagles take big early leadPHILADELPHIA − It didn't take long for Jalen Hurts to show that he's back to full strength, or close enough for him to run like he was before he suffered a shoulder injury back on Dec. 18. He ran for 1,269 yards this season, a career high, in large part because Hurts added 760 yards on the ground.
