Montreal resident Alexe Frédéric Migneault can't get a Quebec health card that corresponds to their gender identity. The RAMQ can currently only issue health cards with an "M" or "F" sex marker. The "X" sex marker is not an option, nor is issuing a health card with so sex marker at all. During that same period, the government authorized 88 requests for the X sex marker on official documents. In Migneault's case, they didn't want to wait for a new health card.

Montreal's Bombito selected third by Colorado Rapids in MLS SuperDraft

Montreal's Moise Bombito, a junior defender at the University of New Hampshire, has been selected third overall by the Colorado Rapids at the MLS SuperDraft. Bombito was a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy awarded to the top player in U.S. college soccer and attended the recent MLS College Showcase. Malcolm Johnston became the third Canadian drafted in the opening round when New York City FC selected him with the 26th pick. Salvatore Mazzaferro was the sixth Canadian taken in the draft, selected by Austin FC with the 14th pick of the final round. Montreal added Mercer University defender Ousman Jabang with the 17th choice of the third, as well as Canadian goalkeeper Nick Christoffersen eight picks later.

Flash freeze warning issued as more than 230,000 lose power in Quebec

Mid-week thaw coming to southern Quebec, thousands still remain with power

For the first time in days, there is no weather warning for southern Quebec after the region was pounded with blizzard-like conditions and power outages that affected more than 350,000 households province-wide. Now, Quebecers in several regions will see a mid-week thaw as temperatures soar. Montreal honour for urologist postponed after condemnation from Iran diaspora

The Société Internationale d'Urologie had invited Dr. Nasser Simforoosh to visit Montreal and to receive a distinguished service award on Nov. 10. The award had been criticized by a group of Canadian physicians with roots in Iran. The Société Internationale d'Urologie would not say whether Simforoosh will be heading to Montreal, nor how it screens award recipients. "SIU has received several emails and other communications making allegations regarding Dr. Simforoosh. Yet six doctors who reached out to SIU and started an online petition say SIU never reached out to verify their claims, and an October letter to Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly yielded no response.

Bloc, NDP criticize Tory MP over refusal to help Quebec family of 'illegal refugees'

Ottawa -Bloc Québécois and New Democrat MPs are criticizing a Conservative colleague for refusing to help a Quebec family facing deportation and calling them "illegal refugees." Bloc MP Mario Simard said Martel, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment, should not have labelled the family "illegal," adding that he has worked with the federal immigration minister to help the family avoid deportation. Issues around Roxham Road can be discussed while still showing people humanity, he added. Paul-Hus's statement did not address Martel's decision not to assist the family because of their immigration status. He said that so far this year, 36,000 people have crossed into the province using Roxham Road, saying that places extra pressure on the province's public services.

McGill speaker's talk cancelled after trans activist protest

"The LGB Alliance is a hate group founded in the United Kingdom with a specific intent of being transphobic," said Trianon. Wintemute is a professor of Human Rights Law at King's College London in the U.K. "These are all claims that the LGB Alliance has put forward and speaks very clearly as to their intent," said Trianon. Trianon objects to McGill giving the Alliance a voice even if McGill does not endorse its views. "You're still giving the LGB Alliance, this terribly transphobic hate group that operates worldwide, a platform," she said.
