January 25, 2023UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed arrived in crisis-ridden Pakistan on Tuesday for a two-day visit to meet with the country’s Prime Minister Rahim Shebaz Sharif, as the country plunges into an economic mess. With a faltering economy and exchange reserves barely able to cover a month’s worth of imports according to Reuters, Pakistan remains a key asset to the UAE.
October 28, 2022Egyptian students who were studying at universities in Ukraine and Russia before fleeing the war in Ukraine are pleading with the Egyptian government to help them overcome the difficulties they have been facing since returning to Egypt. Around 3,500 Egyptian students were studying in Ukraine at the outbreak of the war — although according to an official at Egypt’s Ministry of Education, nearly 85% have now returned home. The virtual meeting was held in coordination with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, amid the repercussions of the Russian war on Ukraine and the return of a large number of Egyptian students from Russia and Ukraine to Egypt due to the ongoing fighting. He noted that several Egyptian students who are now in Egypt want to return to Ukraine to complete the last year of their studies. He said that many Egyptian students who returned from Ukraine are unable to apply to public or private universities in Egypt because their academic records are incomplete.3 months ago Al-Monitor
October 25, 2022TUNIS, Tunisia — Tunisian students at Ukrainian universities who fled Ukraine following the Russian invasion in February now face difficult conditions, as public Tunisian universities refuse to enroll them and authorities continue to ignore their plight. The failure to integrate these students into Tunisian universities has sparked widespread controversy in Tunisia. The decision was widely rejected by doctors, medical students and hospitals, claiming that the move would lead to the privatization of public education in Tunisia since medical internships at public hospitals are handed out to students from public universities. When I contacted Tunisian authorities about that, they said that the degree from this university [in Georgia] is not accredited by the state. According to Education Minister Moncef Boukather, the number of Tunisian medical students from Ukrainian universities is estimated at 1,400 currently in limbo in Tunisia.3 months ago Al-Monitor
