The District of North Vancouver has been aware of the spill for at least a month but no one seems to know exactly where it’s coming from. Multiple agencies are investigating after a mysterious sheen started appearing on Lynn Creek. “Environmental experts together with Western Stevedoring are working to identify and eliminate the source of the sheen. “Western Stevedoring is working closely with regulatory agencies including the BC Environmental Emergency Program and the District of North Vancouver, among others. Western Stevedoring is making a concerted effort to determine the source of the pollution and to mitigate its impact on the natural environment,” said Erika Nassichuk, environmental protection officer.

Like all great love affairs, the one that occurred between myself and Vancouver’s public transit system was brief and tumultuous. Catching the bus from my place to the bottom of West Vancouver was like waiting for a flaky date: was it just late again, or had I been stood up? More often than not, however, I’d be faced with a 45-minute part hill-trek, part bus journey to the bottom. What Google Maps promised to be a 45-minute bus journey from Park Royal, and a six-minute car ride, had taken me over two hours. I'd throw my money at any clunker if it meant never having to wait for a West Vancouver bus again.

Weekend rainfall warnings 'likely' as atmospheric river drenches B.C. coast

Expect heavy rain and some gusty winds, but nothing like last November, says Environment Canada. Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Friday morning as an atmospheric river is expected to bring “heavy rainfall and strong winds” to British Columbia’s south coast and Vancouver Island over the weekend. “The heaviest hit areas are looking to be the west coast of Vancouver Island, Howe Sound and North Vancouver,” said Environment Canada meteorologist Alyssa Charbonneau. Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth later confirmed representatives with Environment Canada told him the system would be ready by early January 2022. Like any extreme weather event, experts recommend paying close attention to Environment Canada weather alerts, to carry an emergency kit in the car and avoid unnecessary travel.
